Birchbox! What’s in the box? (Video post)

My cupcake was girly and delightful, just like Birchbox.

Over the summer, my friend Sarah sent me an invite to join Birchbox.com, and I totally ignored it because I was busy.

A couple weeks ago, Sarah tweeted about some awesome product she got in her Birchbox and I was jealous. I wanted to try it! How it works is Birchbox sends you a monthly box of deluxe sample-sized goodies of beauty and cosmetic products for $10 each month.

Back to Life

I was looking back just now on how I felt the day Gourmet died. Did I ever tell you all that the night before they announced they were killing Gourmet, I had a dream that Ruth died in a car accident? It was the weirdest feeling the next day when I heard the news. I’m pretty emotional today.

I’m emotional today because I feel a dream is coming true. Too many people love Gourmet, love what it represents, love what it offers. Today is that day – the day Gourmet comes to life again in the form of an iPad application.

Turning a new page: The Gourmet Live iPad application, 9.23.10

I could not be happier that I have something I loved so dearly back in my hands, although in a new form entirely.

If you loved Gourmet, or if you just love food or tech, please check out the application. Read all about it here: http://live.gourmet.com/questions/

See some of my tweets below from Oct. 5, 2009, the day it was announced they were shuttering Gourmet. To everyone who worked to bring it back to us in some form, thank you so much.

xx
Emily

If #Gourmet went all-digital, I’d be first in line to work there (behind everyone who just lost their job there today, of course).
Mon, October 5, 2009, 1:03pm – 1:04pm

Think of all the opportunities to push the distribution of the #Gourmet content and unify the passionate subscribers!
Mon, October 5, 2009, 1:04pm – 1:05pm

I need to meet some more people who are as obsessed with both food & tech as I am.

RT @ruthreichl Thank you all SO much for outpouring of support. Sorry not to be posting now, but I’m packing. We’re all stunned, sad.

Blueprint Cleanse, Day 3: Le Fin

By the time I press “publish” on this in a few minutes, it’ll be past midnight, which means I will have not eaten a single thing for three days. Wow. I didn’t eat anything, and I didn’t drink anything outside of my six juices (provided by Blueprint Cleanse) except for tea and water.

Wow.

I’m all clean! No major revelations while I was doing the juice cleanse. Just a few little revelations and reminders:
– Mealtime is sacred.
– Fresh bread smells amazing.
– Food and eating are meant to be inclusive.

What was it like?
I wrote about Day 1. I didn’t write about Day 2, because it was a breeze. And today was more of the same, though I think I said “Hallelelujah!” when I finished the last green juice.

Blueprint Cleanse, Day 1: On The (Juicy) Warpath

Me being a raging you-know-what today has nothing to do with the Blueprint Cleanse and everything to do with me being mid-menstrual cycle, running on 3 hours of sleep (up late working) and dealing with a workload that could flatten a horse.

That said, being HONGRY did not add a nice point to the situation. I’m not actually hungry. I have a faint feeling that I should be eating something, but my hunger is all mental.

Here’s a little vid I made before I left feeling like a traveling juice smuggler this morning: http://flic.kr/p/7PowXk

Juice Delivery for Blueprint Cleanse

Juice Delivery for Blueprint Cleanse

Hi y’all. Last week was wild! From having an article on food and sex get published in New York Press to my food website showing up on Brokelyn.com, it was just a jam-packed few days. Very thankful. And very tired.

Did I mention tired? Since the new year started, I’ve been trying to be more mindful of input vs. output in my life, and the scales have recently tipped towards too much input again. Continue reading
